PHOTOS & FOOTAGE "hiphopmania west coast challenge"
At last! Photos and video footage from America's first "hiphopmania" tournament, the "hiphopmania west coast challenge" held at Southern Hills Golfland in Stanton, California on August 1st, 1999.
What turned out to be a bright and sunny southern Californian afternoon, 16 players entered in the tournament at Southern Hills Golfland in Stanton, California. Aswell as loyal local contestants, players from as far afield as the Bay Area, San Diego and Las Vegas took part and helped America's first "hiphopmania" tournament live up to it's name as the "hiphopmania west coast challenge".

With contestants and other patrons looking on in eager excitement, the tournament got underway with the qualifying round to determine the top 16 seeds. From then on, the tournament turned to a knockout format with the competition becoming tougher as the tournament headed into the semi-finals.

Current "complete MIX" Internet Ranking front-runner, Shun Uchida of Nevada took out the championship with Shawn Theriot also of Nevada taking out second place. Jim Hernandez of the San Francisco Bay Area took third with local representaitve Derick Kim coming in fourth.

Representatives of Konami Amusement of America, Konami of America, and this webmaster from Konami's GM Division in Japan were also there supporting the tournament and getting to know some our players face to face.
Konami would like to thank the staff of Southern Hills Golfland for being so hospitable throughout the planning stages of the tournament and also on tournament day. They put on a great show.
